What is Laughter Yoga?


The laughter yoga is an innovative concept, created by Doctor Kataria, exerting in Mumbay (India).

Convinced by what has been said for centuries, that laughing is good for health, and recently supported by the last scientific studies showing the effects of laughter on physical and mental health, he launched, in Mumbai on March 13th, 1995, the first club of laughter yoga in a park with only 5 people. Soon, amateurs joined the group, but Kataria realized that the source of the jokes dried up, that one often repeats the same ones, that they do not make people laugh any more, and that some people do not share the same sense of humor.

Being a Yogi, himself he adapted abdominal breathings of yoga pranayama, and developed his concept on scientifically proven data by the neurosciences that “the body does not make the difference between a spontaneous laughter and a simulated laughter” one obtains the same physiological and psychological advantages.

Today, the phenomenon is worldwide and thousands of practitioners of yoga laughter are listed in more than 105 countries (2016).

The Laughter Yoga is so successful because it is easy to practice by anybody, it does require any balance or flexibility and it quickly offers a complete wellness onto those who practice as individuals, in companies, students, seniors, and even in the hospitals. The benefits are felt as soon as the first session.
