What happens during a laughter yoga session ?
As your Laughter Yoga teacher, I will lead the rythm’s session for the group to practice motion and movements for abdominal inspiration and laughter exhalation exercices. After 50 minutes of guidance, you will be allowed to fully free your own natural laughter and enjoy a relaxing moment.
A STANDARD LAUGHTER YOGA SESSION :
I will introduce LAUGHTER YOGA , then explain important points for a sucessful session:
– To keep moving and use the space of the room ,
– To establish eye contact with others in the group,
– To respect others and oneself,
– To use laughters instead of speaking
Breathing, clapping, chanting and Warming-Up Exercises
We interspace some Deep Breathing Exercises : heavy exhalations that comes from the belly, to stimulate the diaphragmatic breathing that helps flushing the lungs, and also brings physical and mental relaxation.
We all clap hands for stimulating acupressure points adding rhythms that will be led to a chanting (hoho Hahaha) to increase energy levels and synchronicity.
We then introduce chantings, motion, movements and breathing. To build positive energy, get the diaphragm moving, and create a positive group dynamic in preparation for Laughter.
We use Gibberish a language of sounds without meaning, like Children when learning to speak and during play. This exercise helps people to loosen up and reduce inhibitions and shyness, and retreive their childlike playfulness
Laughter Exercises is a period of 30 to 50 minutes further the duration of the session. I will introduce and lead laughter exercices allowing some breaks in slower breathing exercices so the group can efficiently breathe .
Playful Exercises that help to reduce inhibitions and shyness, including method-acting techniques to shift our mindset, imagining and acting a situation or a role. Milkshake Laughter, Mobile Phone Laughter, animal laughter,… especially popular).
Value-Based Laughter Exercises are designed to ‘program’ positive feelings to gestures, or situations while laughing, teaching our subconscious new auto-responses. (No money Laughter, Appreciation Laughter, Greeting Laughter, and Forgiveness Laughter are popular).
Physical Exercises with Laughter promote mobility chosing movements for streching or twisting or dancing that will all boost feelings of happiness and joy .
I will adapt the exercices furhter the participants abilities and will propose different levels or themes for a group of children, or senior or middle age)or in case working for an association, or a school or a busyness company)
Laughter Yoga Exercises are usualy followed by Laughter Meditation in a sitting position or laying on the floor. This is the time when laughters are allowed to flow out freely, like water from a fountain and that our conscious mind should be disengaged. We feel like if it is our natural and spontaneous laughter that comes out.This is a more spontaneous and deeper experience than that achieved through Laughter Yoga Exercises.
After Laughter Meditation, energy levels can be too high to return directly to normal. To reduce these levels I will guide the group through ‘YOGA NIDRA’ for a complete awareness to different parts of the body and a very relaxing moment.
WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT AFTER A LAUGHTER YOGA SESSION?
We are all individuals, coming in a context, in a mood, and with different history and needs. How could we predict how one’s will react after a session? Further experience and testimonies each session is a new experience, and a new feeling. There is numerous benefits for practicing Laughter yoga, and they are all scientifically proven. whatever can be said it is definitly worthe a try !
Try not to judge how you feel after a session, just observe and may be you will find some changes around you or within you a few days or weeks later.
The abdominal breathing gives oxygenation, by deep breathing and expiration so we can feel the benefits from the very first session, but it is better to train the body and mind to laugh with regular practice.

When is the best time for a Laughter yoga session and how long should it last?
Even it is always a good time to laugh, Ideally, a laughing session should take place in the morning because Laughter yoga energizes you just in 15-20 minutes and keeps you in good spirits and in a good mood throughout the day and even for a few days.
The best length of session is 1 to 1.5 hour
How many sessions?
The number of sessions depends on the individual and how fully they engage, a minimum of 5 sessions could make you at ease with the exercises for you to practice daily and get everyday easy benefits, but it would be good to join a group a few times a year to get the empower of a group practice.
Should I prepare for session?
Laughter yoga does not need any preparing, as we will ask you to release your daily habbits, reflexes and forget for a session to disengage from your conscious and try your best to recover your Childlike Playfulness.
- Arrive at least 5 minutes earlier, in order not to have the stress of being late.
- Wear comfortable clothes
- Have a good hydration
- Have a clear intention for a improvement or a change.
Is there contraindications for laughter yoga ?
Laughter is universally well tolerated, but caution is advised in patients with certain concerning health conditions.
- cold and fever,
- any acute symptoms of cough, or persistent cough with breathlessness
- heart disease with angina pain
- severe backache
- bleeding tendencies in any part of the body, or uncontrolled high blood pressure
- within three months of a major surgery
- any kind of hernia,
- -incontinence of urine
Anyway if any doubts, first ask your doctor if it’s OK for you to laugh.
